Fermanagh is known as Ireland’s lake district, full of beautiful waterways and tiny islands – legend will tell you 365 in total! Enniskillen itself is Ireland’s only island town and sits ‘between the bridges’ where upper and lower Lough Erne converge.

Culture

Fermanagh is steeped in history and is home to more 17th Century Castles than any other county, the most recognisable of which is Enniskillen Castle, which offers visitors and locals alike a welcome as they approach the town from the south.

Beyond Enniskillen, Castle Archdale Estate, Castle Coole, Florencecourt Estate and Crom all have something to offer for history buffs and nature lovers alike. These sprawling estates have endless trails for the whole family to enjoy.

Hiking & Walking

If you enjoy hiking, the world famous UNESCO Marble Arch Geopark has dozens of treks throughout its mass expanse as well as other activities such as cycling, fishing, caving and canoeing. You can find out more information about the Geopark here. It is also home to the wildly popular Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail a.k.a. the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ which is just 11 miles from our pod.

Cycling

There are many cycling trails throughout Fermanagh but the most well known is the ‘Kingfisher Trail’, which is a 230km route in a figure of 8, to cater for both longer and shorter cycles. The route follows quiet country roads, through rural countryside along the lakes and across mountain terrain through Fermanagh, Cavan, Leitrim, Monaghan and Donegal and is suitable for cyclists of all levels.

Watersports

As Enniskillen is an island town, there is no shortage of water-based activities to keep visitors occupied. From canoeing to paddle boarding, boat trips and fishing, there is something for everyone. There are several companies in the area that offer rentals, boat hire and boat tours, many conveniently located in the town itself.
